Grudziądz has for many years been a town with strong aviation roots. It was here, that in 1921 the Higher School for Pilots was established, which was later transformed into the Officer Aviation School and moved to Deblin.
In 1932 in a picturesque village near Grudziądz - Lisie Kąty an aeroclub was set up , which operates till today. At its airport are organised a lot of cyclic aviation events of national and international character, where over 40 air Polish and and world records were broken.
The Grudziądz aeroclub has achieved many significant successes, especially in the modelling section; in 1998 the Aeroclub of Poland awarded the Grudziądz model performers the first place in the country for results achieved both in Poland and abroad. Some successes, which surely helped to make such a decision, were e.g. winning in 1998 the world championship in the class of radio-steered racket-planes by Andrzej Szynak junior and the world championship in the class of high-altitude racket models by Sławomir Łasocha.

An extremely important is the role played by associations and clubs propagating physical culture among disabled people. They gather 260 members, and successes the disabled sportsmen get (medals of Europe and World championships, Olympic Games) bring glory to the town.
